The First 17 Minutes Of Toy Story 4 Finally Reveal Why Bo Peep Disappeared

Spoilers, obviously from CinemaCon 2019 where Disney played the first 17 minutes of the upcoming animated sequel.

I saw the first 17 minutes of Toy Story 4 and at first it felt like time had stopped, looped and rewound to a simpler time when Woody and Buzz were Andy’s toys. In fact, the movie kicks off with a flashback that hits on a lot of nostalgic notes, but also finally reveals a major secret: What happened to Bo Peep and why wasn’t she in Toy Story 3?

Early on, we flashback to Andy’s childhood home, where his sister Molly is getting rid of some of her early toys, including Bo Peep. Woody is making a daring rescue of another toy when Bo Peep is boxed up with her sheep, but he makes it to the car in time to say goodbye. He tries to save her from the box, but she gently reminds him that she’s been made to be played with. Perhaps it’s her time to go.

The clincher, however, is that she asks Woody to go with her, reminding him that toys “get lost” or “left outside.” But he can’t go. He still has Andy to think about. They part ways.

It’s not exactly a tearjerker moment, but wow does the opener hit all the feels.

But we’re off to the races afterward. The movie then cuts to the present day featuring the characters who have all mingled together since Toy Story 3. It’s Bonnie’s orientation day at Kindergarten, but she’s really sad to leave her favorite toys behind. (She’s less sad about Woody, who recently seems to have fallen out of favor.) The rest is the start of an adventure, an adventure that also features new character Forky’s origin story and more.

In the trailer, we’ve seen Woody and Forky get separated from the group thanks to Forky’s penchant for wanting to be trash and not a toy. Woody ends up reuniting with Bo Peep in the first trailer at a shop near a park of some sort, complete with a Ferris Wheel and lots to do! Bo Peep, for her part, has moved on from wanting to please children and Woody seems enamored by this new place and way of thinking.

From Pixar's point of view, we don’t know exactly why Bo Peep was written out of Toy Story 3 or why she only popped up briefly in Toy Story 2. She just wasn’t really a major component in the Toy Story narrative for the last couple of movies, but this first look capably presents a good reason behind why Bo Peep disappeared and the trailer reintroduces her as a stronger and wiser character.

But now she’s back in a big way in Toy Story 4.

Of course, while it’s nice to know why Bo Peep and Woody were separated and when exactly in the timeline it happened, the really notable moment may simply be seeing Woody back in Andy’s world.

I’m not always fond of flashbacks, but in this case, it seems to have worked. Seeing Andy again – even though I knew it was going to happen – capably tied the movie to its roots. Andy’s been a part of every movie and he’s woven into Woody’s fibers of being, even if Woody now has Bonnie written on his shoe.

Ultimately, we know Toy Story 4 is going to get emotional. The other movies in the franchise leave me blubbering every. single. time. Plus Tom Hanks has already said he had an emotional last day filming this sucker, and even didn’t want to face the creative team as he finished up his recording.

The way you record Toy Story, you're in a room with the team that has created it. When I went in for my last day of recording, I wanted to have my back to them, because usually you're facing him so you can look right up and you can talk about it. But I didn't want to see them and I wanted to pretend they couldn't see me. When I realized what they were going for, I realized, 'Oh, this is a moment in history.'

Wait, Is James Bond 25's Title Being Released Soon?

Ever since the release of Spectre, fans of the James Bond franchise have wondered what was next for the super spy. Whether or not there would be another movie was never in doubt, but what that would be, and what it would look like, certainly was. Now we know that Daniel Craig will be back in the role of Bond, and tomorrow, we'll know something more, according to the official James Bond Twitter account.

Exactly what this live reveal will, well, reveal, isn't made specifically clear. However, since we're still stuck calling this new movie the incredibly generic Bond 25 for the moment, an actual title would be a great place to start. The only thing we know regarding the title is that the previously rumored Shatterhand, is not what the movie is called. So we can eliminate that, and we can probably eliminate the name of every previous Bond film as a title, and that leaves several billion possibilities.

Beyond a title, the one that we know will be part of the announcement is casting. In addition to the returning Daniel Craig, we know that Ralph Finnes, Ben Whishaw and Naomi Harris will return to reprise their roles as members of MI6. We also know that Lea Seydoux's character from Spectre will also return. However, we don't know who the villain will be or what other characters might appear. It sounds like we'll get some of those answers.

This live reveal is set to come from an "iconic 007 location" which likely means the movie is finally getting shooting underway. Once that happens, it will be harder to keep some secrets, such as casting, so perhaps the plan is to let the cat out of the bag this way, and thus get a buzz that will start the hype train going on the new film before its release in 12 months time.

It's been a long road to this point. First we had the prolonged "will he/won't he" question regarding Daniel Craig's return. Once Craig officially did confirm he would play James Bond again, things got underway with Danny Boyle as director. However, Boyle eventually left the project, apparently due to conflicts with the studio and perhaps Craig himself. Cary Fukunaga is now helming the new movie with a script that recently saw rewrites from The Bourne Ultimatum's Scott Z. Burns. There's a good chance we'll see the director as part of this event tomorrow.

Whatever we actually learn tomorrow, it will likely only be the beginning.

Vin Diesel is busy preparing to film Fast and Furious 9, updating fans every step of the way. He's been posting photos of his impressive muscles, in case we forget he's a badass, but even tough guys need a quiet place to reflect. Apparently Diesel's space for Fast 9 is called The Dom Shrine, in honor of his character, Dominic "Dom" Toretto. Here's Diesel giving a glimpse of The Dom Shrine:

As Vin Diesel noted in his Instagram video, one of the Fast movies is always playing in the background of the shrine to keep him in the right mindset:

It's kind of a sanctuary that I go to, to prepare for the next chapter. We created it before I went to London for pre-production in February. So it's been a real blessing to have this quiet space to reflect on the task at hand, and the monumental opportunity to do this next chapter.

Vin Diesel has been posting some thoughts on Fast 9 via social media, but in general we don't know too much about the ninth movie in the franchise. Fast 9 will reportedly start filming in late June at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden outside London. Justin Lin is said to be returning as director.

Fast and Furious 9 is currently scheduled to open May 22, 2020, with a 10th movie behind it marking the final film in the series. Jordana Brewster (Mia Toretto) is confirmed to return for Fast 9, but last we heard Michelle Rodriguez (Letty Ortiz) wasn't sure she was coming back, it depended on the script. So official cast and plot updates are waiting in the wings.

For now, we have some deep thought reflections from Vin Diesel, including this look back with Paul Walker (Brian O'Conner), who started the franchise with Diesel in 2001 in The Fast and the Furious.

Sadly, as you know, we lost Paul Walker in 2013 after a horrible car crash. He wasn't finished filming Furious 7 at the time, but his brothers helped as stand-ins to complete Walker's final scenes as Brian.

Fast 8, The Fate of the Furious, ended up getting a lot of attention for the behind-the-scenes beefs. Now we're at Fast 9, and apparently Vin Diesel has fatherhood on his mind. He hinted as much in this photo which he tagged for #Fast9:

Since Fast 9 is still in pre-production, we may have to wait a month or two for more official updates before the start of filming. Here's what we know so far about the movie. Fast franchise fans can also look forward to the spinoff Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, starring The Rock and Jason Statham, which opens in theaters August 2.

Sonic The Hedgehog’s Director Promises That Design Changes Are Coming

Two days ago, the first trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie was released, and the reception has… not been stellar, to put it lightly. Most of the backlash has been directed towards Sonic himself, as the Ben Schwartz-voiced version of the Sega character looks radically different than how he’s been traditionally depicted.

Well, don’t let it be said that fan complaints have never resulted in a movie being changed. Sonic the Hedgehog director Jeff Fowler has seen and heard the negative reactions towards the upcoming video game movie, and he’s promised that improvements are on the way. Here’s what Fowler announced to the world:

While I’m usually not a fan of audiences having a say in how an upcoming movie should look or flow, it is rather refreshing to see a creative mind recognize criticism and, rather than continue on full-stream ahead with the original plan, is willing to make adjustments. For Sonic the Hedgehog, one would think that things can only improve from here, although hopefully this doesn’t result in a slippery slope where filmmakers are caving to the demands of the public more often.

It was always going to be a difficult creative endeavor adapting the cartoonish Sonic into a CGI character who looks like he belongs in the “real world,” but it’s safe to say that most people are not digging his humanoid look for the upcoming movie. His human teeth are especially unsettling, but at least Ben Schwartz’s voice is still a good fit for the super fast extraterrestrial rodent.

There’s only six months to go until Sonic the Hedgehog’s release, so it will be interesting to see how much the eponymous character’s design can be changed in that time. It’s doubtful this will be a total overhaul, otherwise the movie would likely need to be pushed back. Ideally whenever the next Sonic the Hedgehog trailer drops, some, if not all of these changes will be noticeable.

If Jeff Fowler and his team are looking for inspiration on how to improve Sonic the Hedgehog’s design, there’s no shortage of fan creations to be found online. For example, here’s one from Twitter user Edward Pun that’s making the rounds:

For his first movie, Sonic finds himself on Earth trying to collect his rings (just like in the video games), evade being captured by the U.S. government and defeat the maniacal Dr. Ivo Robotnik, a.k.a. Dr. Eggman, played by Jim Carrey. Sonic will be aided by James Marsden’s Tom Wachowski, a former officer from the San Francisco Police Department who is now Sheriff of Green Hills, Montana. The movie’s cast also includes Tika Sumpter, Adam Pally and Neal McDonough.

John Wick 3's Big Spoiler Scene Caused A Bunch Of Challenges

The following contains spoilers for John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum.

The newest installment of the John Wick franchise once again puts the title character through hell. He's set upon by another army of assassins trying to kill him and he must fight them off almost entirely alone, and while Wick has proven resilient, he hasn't made it this far without some scars. However, the biggest injury John Wick has yet sustained comes in John Wick Chapter 3 - Parabellum, and it's an injury that caused problems not just for the character, but also the production of the movie itself.

Without diving too deep into spoiler territory, John Wick sustains a serious injury to his left hand, one that required the use of CGI in order to recreate the damage any time you saw Keanu Reeves left hand throughout the rest of the movie.

The problem is that Keanu Reeves is left-handed, which meant that a not insignificant amount of money was going to need to be spent on CGI for the new movie because you were going to be seeing that hand a lot. According to director Chad Stahelski...

No one creatively saw a problem with it, but it comes down to a simple matter of financials. Without giving away the spoiler, you saw it; you know what he does. That’s on his lead hand. You have a left-handed actor who’s just deformed his left hand and that left hand is in every shot of the third act of the movie. VFX wise, there’s a cost associated with that. There’s logistical problems and practical filming that are associated with that. The studio does their job of questioning my visions and my methods to see if I really like it

It seems that Lionsgate, the studio behind the John Wick franchise, had to at least ask the director if this decision was really a necessary one. While it was understood from a story perspective, movies are a commercial venture after all, and so cost is always going to be a concern. According to THR, The director apparently had to make concessions in the budget in other places in order to make sure the money was there to handle the CGI costs.

For whatever it's worth, odds are that the studio probably doesn't mind the additional CGI costs as much right now. John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum had the biggest opening in the franchise history this past weekend, and a fourth film has already been green lit. Of course, most of John Wick: Chapter 4 is going to be that much more expensive because the injury in question won't be healing in the next movie, so the next film will need to use CGI for the entire run.

Although he’d been acting in Australia for years beforehand, many American moviegoers first became aware of Chris Hemsworth when he debuted as Thor in 2011, and needless to say his time as the God of Thunder has propelled him to worldwide stardom. However, before he was tapped to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hemsworth nearly scored the role of Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

In 2009, Chris Hemsworth made his American film debut with Star Trek, where he played George Kirk, James T. Kirk’s father who sacrificed his life to ensure the survival of his newborn son, his wife and everyone else who made if off the U.S.S. Kelvin. But 2009 could have been a much bigger year for him, as in addition to being up for Gambit, Hemsworth was also being looked at to play the lead role in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

Alas, neither project worked out for Chris Hemsworth, but a decade later, the actor acknowledges that had he scored either role, he wouldn’t have been able to play the character that’s made him a movie star. As Hemsworth told Variety:

I got very close to Gambit in the Wolverine ‘X-Men’ movies. At the time I was upset. I was running out of money. But if I played either of those characters, I wouldn’t have been able to play Thor.

Friday Night Lights’ Taylor Kitsch ended up playing Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, while Channing Tatum was tapped to play Duke in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Ironically, Tatum tried for years to succeed Kitsch as Gambit in a standalone X-Men spinoff, but after going through numerous directors and being continually delayed, Disney, which now has 21st Century Fox under its roof, officially shelved Gambit earlier this month.

It also doesn’t hurt that both X-Men Origins: Wolverine and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra were met with mostly critical negative reception, so if Chris Hemsworth had appeared in either movie, there’s a chance that might have hurt his early movie career. As far as Gambit is concerned, Taylor Kitsch signed a three-picture deal to play the character, but because X-Men Origins: Wolverine wasn’t well received, he never returned to the character, and now the Ragin’ Cajun won’t star in his own movie either.

Now that the X-Men property is resting at home with Marvel Studios, it’s only a matter of time before the franchise is rebooted to fit within the Marvel Cinematic Universe continuity. Perhaps Gambit will get a chance to shine then through an ensemble movie, but until then, the character remains an exile from the realm of comic book movies.

SPOILERS for Avengers: Endgame are ahead!

As for Chris Hemsworth, he made his eighth appearance as Thor last month in Avengers: Endgame, and unlike what happened with Iron Man and Captain America, his story was left open-ended when everything was over. Thor’s time in Endgame concluded with him accompanying the Guardians of the Galaxy when they departed Earth, but it remains to be seen if he’ll be a part of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, if his return will be saved for a different movie (like Thor 4) or if Endgame did indeed mark Hemsworth’s last time playing the God of Thunder.

You can still see Chris Hemsworth playing Thor in Avengers: Endgame in theaters, and the actor will be back on the big screen on June 14 for Men In Black International.

Backlash To The Robert Pattinson And Game Of Thrones Petitions Has Inspired A New Meme

Nerd culture has just been getting rocked these past few weeks, huh? First, the final season of Game of Thrones hasn't been living up to expectations, which culminated in an extremely controversial event during the penultimate episode. Then Robert Pattinson was reportedly in the final stages of being cast as Batman in Matt Reeves' solo film. Petitions in reaction to these two events have gained publicity online, and Film Twitter is poking fun at the sheer ridiculousness of it all, creating a new "petitioning the makers of" meme.

To sum things up for you, fans aren't happy with the overall direction of Game of Thrones eighth and final season. From the Night King's quick dismissal to Daenerys massive heel turn, fans want the entire season be re-written and reshot from scratch. Yeah, sure, that'll happen.

Even though Robert Pattinson isn't even technically confirmed as Batman, people didn't waste time getting a petition out there to remove Pattinson from the role. Again, he hasn't signed anything yet and the job could go to Nicholas Hoult, but that's a detail that doesn't seem to be important to people.

Obviously, both of these petitions are ridiculous and will accomplish nothing. Whether these are sincere or just trolling, it's nerd entitlement at its finest. Thankfully, the film community isn't taking these petitions seriously either. Several actors have taken to Twitter to poke fun at the petitions, giving birth to a new joke format asking for stupid changes to classic films.

The above tweets come from actors Jon Donahue, Diedrich Bader, Michael McKean, and Mark Hamill (you might have heard of him). Each actor posted a tweet asking for an iconic film to have its ending changed, such as King Kong surviving to become a Broadway star or Wilson the volleyball not getting lost at sea.

The common thread amongst these tweets is that the films have unhappy endings, but they are some of the most popular films ever made. The lesson behind all of this is that sometimes things don't end the way you want, but that doesn't make those films bad. We're still about a day away from knowing how the finale of Game of Thrones will affect the entire outlook of the show or if Pattinson will be a good Batman, but let's not jump the gun here.

At least with Game of Thrones, we don't have to wait much longer for the finale. It's premiering tomorrow night on Sunday, May 19 on HBO and it's sure to be a television event (even if it sucks). Meanwhile, The Batman is still quite a ways off because the script isn't even finished.
